Amsterdam is by nature a small and compact city and is ideal for discovery on foot! Walking around Amsterdam is like stepping into an giant open-air museum – many parts have not changed for hundreds of years.

We’ll look at how the city began over 800 years ago and how it expanded during the 17th Century Golden Age with the construction of the Grachtengordel (canal belt) and explain the formation of the Dutch East and West India Companies. We will stroll along the canals and discover in detail how and why the canals they were built, before passing the Westerkerk, mentioned frequently in the Diary of Anne Frank.

As a private tour, this walk is fully customisable – you choose the pick-up and drop off points, tell us your interests and preferences and we’ll design a custom-walk for you complete with child-friendly locations led by one of our family guides. This walk is the family version of our popular Amsterdam Discovery Walk. It is ideal for families visiting Amsterdam looking for a child-friendly orientation to the city.
