KIJK! Te zien in het Tropenmuseum

February 2013

Creation of the new programme ‘Kijk! Te zien in het Tropenmuseum’ for Basisonderwijs (Primary School) Group 7 and 8 which explores objects carefully and slowly using thinking routines from Visible Thinking.

During the programme students learn how to look at objects carefully and slowly and how to make interpretations and justify with evidence. The programme also encourages students to explore different perspectives and viewpoints of people, objects and the stories. Students discover for themselves how objects can tell stories in many different ways. Completion of the project included the development of the new programme, creation and writing of a Teacher’s Pack and also an activity for students to complete in the museum. Museum docents were also trained in the new working method ‘Stop! Look! Think.’

Stories Around the World

May 2011 to November 2012

Stories Around the World is a new participative programme for international primary schools in
English at the Tropenmuseum. It has been developed over the past year in conjunction with several international schools. This new programme explores the theme of stories and storytelling by looking at and connecting with a series of carefully chosen objects around the museum. I developed a new method
for the programme called ‘Stop! Look! Think.’ The aim is to encourage slow, detailed exploration of objects using thinking routines from Visible Thinking.
